Changes implemented early Dec. 2019

The series of figures below have been made to illustrate the changes made to our perimeter wall routing algorithm.

Previously, the perimeter wall length used in exterior area calculations surrounded only areas deemed to be habitable year-round(included).

Now and in the future, the perimeter wall length will surround even spaces that are not habitable year-round(excluded).

This change does not affect which spaces are included in total interior floor area calculations. Interior spaces that are excluded from total interior floor area calculations(e.g. attached garages, unheated sunrooms, open to below, etc.) are still excluded and shown in white. The footprint of all interior walls within the perimeter are still included in total interior floor area calculations as well.

As a result of this change, the perimeter wall length value used in exterior area calculations will be larger for updated iGUIDEs which have attached unheated sunrooms and/or garages.

Figure 2 - The area outlined in blue represents the new perimeter. The area outlined in orange is no longer used in perimeter calculations.

Figure 3 - The area outlined in blue represents the old perimeter. Notice the wall surrounding the open to below area is not considered.

Figure 4 - The area outlined in blue represents the new perimeter. The area outlined in orange is no longer used in perimeter calculations, but the length remains practically the same.
